A Warm Welcome to Huxlow

At Huxlow we believe that students who are happy, feel safe and are taught well will enjoy school and as a result be successful.

We are passionate about caring for our students, ensuring that they are all known as individuals. Ofsted June 2016 stated that “everyone in the school puts pupil’s well-being at the centre of everything they do”.

Students are challenged to be as good as they possibly can be and supported to achieve this. Academic success is hugely important to us and we have a rich history of students of all abilities and from a wide variety of backgrounds achieving as well as they could.

However, schools are about far more than academic success and we believe that developing “The Whole Child” is one of our core responsibilities. In order to enjoy a successful adult life it is important that our students develop characteristics such as leadership, organisation, resilience, initiative, and communication.

Music tuition and extra-curricular opportunities

Instrumental and singing lessons start on Monday 10 September 2018. Timetables will be sent to each student’s school email address, so please check these as soon as possible and see Mrs Runnells with any questions.

College Choir starts on Wednesday 12 September at 8.30am, in the Music Room. We also practice on Monday lunchtimes. Anyone is welcome, boys and girls, so if you enjoy singing, come and give it a go! (I register you in the Music Room)

Ukulele Club starts again on Tuesday 11 September at 8.50am, in the Music Room. No previous experience is necessary! You don't have to register first, I do it in the Music Room.

Huxlow Science College offers music tuition with the Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust (NMPAT). An additional opportunity is also available with NMPAT now:


Available in September 2018 – Bassoon, Oboe and Double Bass Clubs

Would you like to have a go at learning to play the bassoon, oboe or double bass?

The Music and Performing Arts Trust offers Bassoon, Oboe and Double Bass clubs on Thursday and Friday evenings in Northampton from September 2018. Students interested in starting to learn one of these instruments can sign up for just £30 per term, which includes the free loan of an instrument, a tutor book, one reed per term and group tuition.
