Head's Welcome

A Warm Welcome to Huxlow

My philosophy is very clear, 'if it is not good enough for my child, then it is not good enough for yours'.

At Huxlow we are committed to developing the whole child, and strive to ensure that every student’s experience is one where they feel Safe, Happy and experience Success.

School years should be the most memorable, and our aim is to offer a wealth of opportunities and experiences to ensure every student leaves enriched and equipped for life beyond Huxlow.

Each member of staff is committed to a common goal which is to ensure ‘every individual is empowered to fulfil their potential’. As well as an excellent academic provision student can expect high quality wellbeing support through out each Key Stage. Our most recent OFSTED recognised that “everyone in the school puts pupil’s well-being at the centre of everything they do”.

We are proud that as a result of their Huxlow experience and personal dedication, students are supported to achieve their goals and go on to a range of top Universities including Oxford and Cambridge, access competitive Apprenticeships and acquire sought after roles in the world of work. Mostly, we are proud that our students go on to be responsible young adults who are an asset to our community.

I am incredibly lucky to lead such a dedicated team of staff at Huxlow and to watch our students flourish, equipped for exciting futures, as a result of staff expertise and guidance.

The aim of the course is for every student to enjoy their creativity. Once a week, they will develop skills in a range of media and build up confidence in their artistic ability. Students will build resilience and be encouraged to take risks, learning from their mistakes and ‘happy creative accidents!’

Our Goal: “At Huxlow every individual is empowered to fulfil their potential”

To fulfil your potential at Key Stage 3 you should:

  • Come to every lesson with a positive attitude
  • Be prepared with the correct equipment
  • Try your best
  • Homework is set once every three weeks, and students have a week to complete the task.

Students have the opportunity to opt into Art for Key Stage 4 which enables them to have Art for three sessions a week. Year 9 is used to develop confidence and a range of skills, so that in Years 10-11 students will have the skills, knowledge and understanding to be more independent and be naturally more skilful as art practitioners and designers.

Our values #2: “Everyone is ambitious and welcomes the challenge of being the best they can”

To be the best you can be at Key Stage 4 you should have:

  • A passion for Art and Design
  • A background of hard work and a good ethos for work and learning
  • The energy to sustain enthusiasm for three years - the course is 80% coursework and labour intensive
  • The time to nurture an ability in Art
  • Basic equipment
  • Art equipment such as watercolours/ oil pastels is advantageous
  • A camera is also advantageous to the course; although this can be as basic as a phone camera
  • Homework is set fortnightly for Year 9
  • Homework is set weekly for Year 10 and Year 11
